Quarantine Essentials
PSA: There is no wrong way to take care of yourself right now. These are unchartered waters, and let’s be real, it is HARD staying home. Here are some essentials I’ve put together to help you survive quarantine. No, these aren’t necessarily material items you can go out and buy, and they aren’t crazy, earth shattering ideas. However, these are simple changes you can instantly implement, whether in quarantine or not, in order to live a healthier lifestyle all year round.
Water, Water, Water!
We’ve all heard this before, and it’s true, a proper daily water intake has infinite benefits. Making sure you re-hydrate every morning after a good night’s rest is essential. Your body depends on water and your skin will thank you, because you’ll stay hydrated from the inside out. I have found I need to constantly remind myself to drink enough water during quarantine. While it seems easy, because we’re basically at home all day, it is something that is worth being consistent and intentional about— always.
Self Care
Carving out time for self care is not only important for your relationship with yourself, but for your relationship with others. When you make space for yourself, you can make space for others. If your cup is full, then you can give to others more freely.
Self care looks different for every individual. Remember, there is no wrong way to take care of yourself right now. For me personally I have found exercise to be like medicine to me, as well as the single best cure for anxiety during a time like this. The world automatically feels like a calmer and much more optimistic place post-workout. What fills your cup? Maybe it’s snuggling your dog, painting your nails, reading a book, or drinking wine in the bath tub. Whatever it is, do just that.
Fresh Air
We live in an age where everything is at our fingertips and quarantine has further enhanced this idea. We are literally able to go to work, the gym, shop, and enjoy happy hour with friends all from our computer, phone, or tablet.
This is where the importance of fresh air comes in. By simply stepping away from the computer, outside and getting some fresh air we can feel refreshed and renewed. Motivation can be hard to come by during a time like this, but being mindful of when to take a break is critical. Something as simple as checking your daily step count could be the motivator to get your butt off the couch and out the door.
There are so many ways to get creative when it comes to incorporating little hacks for an all around healthier lifestyle. While your quarantine essentials don’t have to be physical objects like a brand new Peleton, coffee maker, or cute and comfy loungewear, they can be practical steps you take that will benefit you both today and everyday. We’re all in this together.
